When I was given the chance to sample the new range of breads and a cheesecake delicacy from The Polish Bakery in London I was intrigued by the unique flavours and their dedication to quality. In the last year they’ve won several awards including the 2017 People’s Choice Quality Award!
After tempting myself with the fresh aromas I enjoyed a plum bread followed by the award-winning chia seed bread that had a lot of appealing textures.
Chia seed bread
The taste was complex and hearty; I liked that there was a lot going on that made it very interesting to savour and better than a standard white loaf for example. I was able to enjoy it on it’s own and then with just a small amount of butter as it didn’t need anything else to satisfy the palette.
To top it off, chia seeds are considered a ‘superfood’ making the bread a healthy food alternative, suitable for those who like or require a gluten free diet.
The cheesecake was also really different to anything I’d had before – in a good way. The citrus flavours worked really well with the hint of cocoa and the soft base had a good moisture to it.
After trying it for myself I shared it with friends and they agreed but did comment it was very different from the cheesecake they were familiar with, in particular the texture, which was very soft and sponge-like.
I think we probably have a version of what we expect ‘a cheesecake’ to be – the New York style for example – and this Polish version is of course it’s own entity originating from different bakers and is also delicious.
So, if you’re ever in London and want to try fresh baked goods that are a bit different and a change from the usual snacks and treats found in coffee shops, try The Polish Bakery.
