When you travel in the way I do, space is limited, to say the least. It means that you really cannot afford to be carrying things you do not really need.
However, you have to get the balance right. If you are not careful, you can end up having no choice but to wear the same things day in day out. That is OK, but you soon start to feel scruffy. Even well-laundered clothes start to look worn. It is not a lot of fun going to a party and feeling underdressed.
Fortunately, there is a lot you can do to stop this from becoming an issue.
A nice dress
My first tip is to pack a dress. There are some really nice ones to choose from here.
Provided you choose one that is made from lightweight fabric it will not take up a lot of space. They are great for wearing to a party or for a date if you are lucky enough to meet someone nice on your travellers.
I have two very nice print dresses that work really well for me. My favourite at the moment is my yellow and black ruffle sleeve prom style dress. It is super comfortable, and not so sophisticated that I cannot wear for travelling.
My other favourite is a Scarlett Johansen style dress, which has two handy pockets incorporated into the skirt section. The fact it is dark blue makes it a good option for travelling. Because it is made from 100% viscose it does not crease easily. If it does get a bit creased, all I need to do is to hang it in a steamy bathroom to get it looking good again.
Jeans and leggings
My other travel essential is jeans or leggings. The fact that retailers like this one, sell so many different cuts makes it really easy to find a pair that fits you perfectly.
The last thing you need when you are travelling is to have to wear clothes that do not fit properly. They will cut into your legs and make you feel really uncomfortable. For long journeys, a pair of super soft, stretchy denim style jeggings is a great option. The ones I own have functional back pockets, which is really handy.
They are so thin that I can easily wear them underneath my regular jeans even though they are also skinny cut. Being able to do this makes a huge difference on colder days. There is no doubt that wearing layers is the best way to stay warm.
The thing about jeans is that they are really durable. This means that they do not start to look scruffy after you have worn them most days for a couple of months. You can easily look smart enough for a beach barbecue in a pair of freshly laundered black skinny jeans, a pair of strappy sandals, a nice top and maybe a denim or leather jacket.
Clothes that match
The more you coordinate your wardrobe the more outfit choices you will have and the easier it will be for you to create the look you really want. Having a nice dress or crisp blouse to wear to an interview can make a huge difference if you have to work to be able to afford to travel.
