    I was so excited after checking in after my train from Venice that I immediately wanted to get something done in Rome, so walked the twenty minutes or so from the hostel, down a main street and park (dodgy, not again Google Maps) to the Colosseum.     Venice has always been a dream destination and to finally arrive was slightly surreal. After a stop off at Vallach in Austria en route from Lake Bled, I was ready to be amazed. At first, it felt like I was recalling ‘spoilers’ I’d seen on Google images rather than being there, apart from when I was traipsing my luggage up bridges with steps.

    A Holiday from a Holiday in Lake Bled

    Showing off Slovenia at it’s best, Lake Bled is difficult to describe as it’s more about how it feels than it looks, or even what you can do here. The picturesque lake is of course the central force, with a backdrop of mountains and historical buildings. Spending three nights here, it was relaxing, joyful and I guess the main buzz word I’d attribute it would be ‘serene’.

    My guest house in Ljubljana was just what I needed and after racing to check-in by the deadline, I got comfortable and wrote up Zagreb, the disappointing city that was never going to be good. The next morning after the included breakfast, I stored my bag at the hotel and explored the city centre.
